MACON--Mercer University is now participating in the Independent 529 Plan, a prepaid tuition plan that enables students to lock in future tuition costs at less than today's prices. Through the Plan, certificates are purchased that can be used to pay future tuition costs. When the student is later accepted at a member college, the certificate can be used to pay the percentage of tuition that was pre-purchased. Independent 529 Plan is the first 529 plan sponsored by private ("independent") colleges, and Program certificates can be redeemed for tuition at a broad array of independent colleges nationwide.
MACON - Mercer University student Kim Campbell has been awarded a SHEAR/Mellon Fellowship to study history this summer. Campbell, a history major from Hawkinsville, will spend several weeks in Philadelphia doing archival work for her senior thesis and will attend a seminar for the fellows. The rising senior is one of only 10 students chosen from across the nation for this year's fellowship, which is sponsored by the McNeil Center for Early American Studies at the University of Pennsylvania.

He will give a lunch presentation at the Capital City Club at 12:30 p.m. and a dinner presentation at 6:30 p.m. in the Presidents Dining Room of the University Center on Mercer's Macon campus.
MACON-- Mercer University President R. Kirby Godsey recently announced the appointment of Douglas R. Pearson, Ph.D., as Vice President and Dean of Students, effective July 1. In his new position, Pearson will serve as the senior administrator for student life services for the students attending the University's College of Liberal Arts, Stetson School of Business and Economics, School of Engineering, Tift College of Education and the College of Continuing and Professional Studies in Macon."The search committee was committed to selecting an administrator who could advance the University's student life programs to a higher level of service to students," said President Godsey. ATLANTA - Nursing students who are interested in continuing their nursing education beyond a baccalaureate degree and registered nurses who plan to return to school to receive a bachelor of science in nursing degree are invited to a tea at Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University. The program, to be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, February 23, will provide information about the Master of Science in Nursing Program and the RN-BSN program. The tea will be held at Mercer University's Cecil B. Day Graduate and Professional Campus, 3001 Mercer University Drive, just off I-85 inside the northeast perimeter.
ATLANTA - The Center for Teaching Churches at Mercer's James and Carolyn McAfee School of Theology will hold its Inaugural Convocation April 12 on the University's Atlanta Campus. Dr. Fred Craddock, nationally renowned preacher and emeritus professor at Candler School of Theology, will deliver the convocation address in Day Hall at 10:45 a.m. The convocation is the highlight of a day of events unveiling the Center.
