MACON, Ga./BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - Mercer University and the Baptist History and Heritage Society announced today that Society offices will relocate to Mercer's Atlanta campus in July. The Society's Board of Directors approved the move in a unanimous vote.

MACON - A new grant from the Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation will help Stetson School of Business and Economics professor Scott Beaulier, Ph.D., advance the study of political economy at Mercer University. Dr. Beaulier, the department chair and assistant professor of economics, will give a special topics course for the spring semester and bring in a number of high-level economists to deliver lectures on contemporary issues in political economy.
ATLANTA - The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) has awarded a research grant to Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy faculty member Christine Y. Hon for her study on histamine pharmacodynamics and genotypes. A resident of DeKalb County, Hon was one of 14 faculty members in the United States selected to receive a grant under the AACP's New Investigators Program (NIP). Supported by the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education, the NIP assists the research careers of new pharmacy faculty by providing start-up funding for their research.

 MACON, Ga. - After seeing its five-game winning streak snapped last weekend, the Mercer women's basketball team shot a season-high 52.9 percent from the field to defeat Atlantic Sun newcomer Kennesaw State, 69-55.   After a slow start, the Bears used a 12-4 run over two-minute streak in the first half to take a 22-11 lead midway through. The Lady Owls trimmed the lead down to five with 7:19 remaining in the half off a Shavonder Clarke jumper, but Tanya Kessenich pushed the Bears' lead back to nine with consecutive layups.   Mercer (9-7, 6-3 A-Sun) continued to dominate the paint in the second half led by Sarah Russell and Kessenich. The Bears took advantage of the Lady Owls collapsing on the paint as Sally Skeldon hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give Mercer a 10-point lead with 13:24 remaining.   Kennesaw State (2-14, 2-8 A-Sun) cut the lead to seven twice but was unable to get any closer. Both teams mishandled the ball at times but...
ATLANTA - J. Lyle Bootman, Ph.D., dean of The University of Arizona College of Pharmacy, will deliver the 2009 G. Van Greene Distinguished Lecture at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, at the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences on the Atlanta campus of Mercer University. Dr. Bootman will speak on "Value-Based Health Care: The Role of Pharmaceuticals for the 21st Century." The lecture is free and open to the public.
MACON - Kimberly A. Gray, Ph.D., an expert on natural and engineered environmental systems, will give the Third Annual Sigma Xi Distinguished Science Lecture at Mercer University on Thursday, Oct. 2, at 6:30 p.m. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the auditorium of Mercer's Science and Engineering Building on the University's Macon campus. Dr. Gray will give a lecture titled "Energy and the Environment: The Central Challenge of Sustainability."
