MACON--Mercer University is now participating in the Independent 529 Plan, a prepaid tuition plan that enables students to lock in future tuition costs at less than today's prices. Through the Plan, certificates are purchased that can be used to pay future tuition costs. When the student is later accepted at a member college, the certificate can be used to pay the percentage of tuition that was pre-purchased. Independent 529 Plan is the first 529 plan sponsored by private ("independent") colleges, and Program certificates can be redeemed for tuition at a broad array of independent colleges nationwide.
MACON - Mercer University announces the appointment of Michael Steven Leonard, Ph.D., as senior associate dean of the School of Engineering, effective June 1. In this new role, Leonard will work closely with Mercer School of Engineering Dean Dayne Aldridge to provide general oversight of the School of Engineering and represent the School to internal and external constituencies. He will be responsible for the Bachelor of Science in Engineering Program and the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management Program.  He also will assist with the Center for Excellence in Engineering Education and the various activities required for maintaining accreditation. ATLANTA/MACON - Mercer University's Executive Forum, presented by BB&T, will feature Stephen Moore of The Wall Street Journal editorial board, Thursday, Feb. 17, in Atlanta and Macon. He will give a lunch presentation at the Capital City Club at 12:30 p.m. and a dinner presentation at 6:30 p.m. in the Presidents Dining Room of the University Center on Mercer's Macon campus.
The excitement of the NCAA Final Four in Atlanta will kick off early Friday morning and nearly 50 Mercer students will be on hand to join in the excitement. The Georgia Dome is the host site Saturday and Monday for the NCAA basketball finals and CBS is the network originating coverage for the Final Four.

MACON - Wahaj Khan, a 2011 graduate of Macon's Central High School, has been named the first recipient of a new endowed scholarship created at Mercer University and funded by former Mercer trustee, alumnus and Macon businessman Benjamin W. (Benjy) Griffith III. Griffith has pledged $2.5 million to endow the Griffith Scholars program. This program will enable academically gifted graduates from Bibb County high schools with demonstrated financial need to obtain the premier education available at Mercer.

ATLANTA - Mercer President William D. Underwood and College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Dean H.W. "Ted" Matthews have announced the establishment of the T.P. Haines Endowed Chair in Transdermal Delivery Systems; Dr. Ajay K. Banga, professor and chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, is the inaugural holder of the endowed position.
