MACON - A group of Mercer University business students is working to bring more interaction between the Macon community and Mercer students through a series of events for students and community members called "Paint the Town Orange." The events, which are part of the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce's new "Macon. Discover it." initiative, will take place from April 14-18, include discounts for Mercer students and events that are free and open to public, including an outdoor concert on April 18.

MACON - Augusta native Andrew "Drew" Goldsmith, M.D., was presented the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Leonard Tow Student Humanism in Medicine Award from Mercer University School of Medicine during commencement May 3 in Macon. Goldsmith, who also received his doctor of medicine degree at the commencement, was chosen by the medical school faculty for his empathic, sensitive and respectful behavior in providing patient care.
ATLANTA - Mercer University's College of Continuing and Professional Studies will hold a free information session for individuals interested in entering the career field of counseling with a master of science in community counseling degree. The session will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21, in rooms 123 and 125 of the McAfee School of Theology building on Mercer's Cecil B. Day Campus, 3001 Mercer University Drive, just off I-85 inside the northeast perimeter.   Designed for working adults, the graduate program offers an evening and weekend course schedule that prepares graduates to become licensed professional counselors. MACON, Ga. - Mercer University's Department of Political Science begins its Eighth Annual College of Liberal Arts Lecture Series at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13, in Room 251 of Stetson Hall on Mercer's Macon campus. This year's theme is "Women, Power and Politics," and will feature professors from across the University delivering timely lectures related to the theme.  The first speaker in the series will be Laurie Lankin, assistant dean of the College of Continuing and Professional Studies and associate professor of counseling and human services. MACON, Ga. - Mercer University joined former United States President Jimmy Carter in bringing together the leaders of Baptist conventions and organizations from throughout North America to explore opportunities for establishing a unified voice. The meeting was held earlier this month at The Carter Center in Atlanta, Ga., with participants representing more than 20 million Baptists in the United States and Canada. 
TROY, Ala. -- The Mercer women's basketball team will play Belmont in the opening round of the Atlantic Sun Basketball Championship Thursday at Troy State.   The Bears, number six seed in the A-Sun Tourney, will tip off against the number three seed Bruins at 2:15 CST.   The winner will advance to the semi-finals Friday at 5 p.m. CST against the winner of #2 Florida Atlantic and #7 Campbell.   The championship game will be played Saturday at 3 p.m. CST. MACON - Mercer University students will present their research projects during an Undergraduate Research Symposium this Friday, April 20, from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Tarver Library on Mercer's Macon campus. The event will feature 27 posters, highlighting projects completed by 40 Mercer undergraduate students who conducted research with professors from the School of Medicine, the School of Engineering and the College of Liberal Arts.
MACON-Renowned professional communicator Dr. Jean-luc "JL" Doumont will give a free seminar entitled "Making the Most of Your Presentation" at Mercer University's School of Engineering. His presentation will be from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18, in room 210 of the Engineering Building on the Macon Campus, just off I-75 and Mercer University Drive. The event is open to the public. A guest of Mercer's Technical Communication Department faculty, Doumont is an engineer with a doctoral degree in applied physics from Stanford University.  He has extensive experience in teaching engineers to write and speak effectively.  The Belgium resident's visit is part of a South American-North American tour of universities and companies throughout January.  JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Expecting a challenge on the road, the Mercer women's basketball team stepped up and knocked off its first opponent on its two-game road trip. Three players finished with double digits as Mercer defeated Jacksonville, 66-59.   Mercer (8-6, 5-2 A-Sun) struggled to find its offensive groove in the first half, committing 10 turnovers but didn't fall too far behind as the teams swapped buckets most of the half.
